NHL: Washington 3, Carolina 2

RALEIGH, N.C., March 14 (UPI) -- Mike Ribeiro capped a Washington comeback Thursday by scoring the go-ahead goal with 2:16 left, giving the Capitals a 3-2 win over Carolina.

Washington rallied from a two-goal deficit and avenged a 4-0 loss to the Hurricanes on Tuesday. The Capitals had lost three in a row.

Alexander Semin and Patrick Dwyer scored for the Hurricanes in the first 9 minutes, but Michal Neuvirth was perfect the rest of the way while making 36 saves.

Joey Crabb's second goal of the year brought Washington within one early in the second period and Alex Ovechkin tied it on the power play just 61 seconds into the third.

Ovechkin also assisted on Ribeiro's slap shot that got past Dan Ellis for the winning goal. Ellis stopped 22-of-25 shots.

Carolina, which is leading the Southeast Division, had won two straight.
