ATLANTA, March 13 (UPI) -- An Atlanta woman says her 16-year-old son has the right to know if basketball great Michael Jordan is his father.

"My son wants to know," Pamela Y. Smith said after a court hearing on whether the former NBA star should be compelled to take a paternity test, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday.

Smith has filed a lawsuit claiming that Jordan is the father of her child.

During a private status hearing at the Fulton County courthouse, Jordan's attorney, John Mayoue, filed a countersuit in which he noted that Smith said during her 2003 divorce the teenager was fathered by her husband, Glennville G. Reynolds.

Smith claims she began a relationship with the six-time NBA champion in the late 1980s, reported WSB Radio in Atlanta.

No decision came out of the hearing.
