ST. LOUIS, March 12 (UPI) -- Jake Allen improved to 6-1 on the season with a 39-save performance and Chris Stewart scored twice Tuesday in the St. Louis Blues' 4-2 win over San Jose.

Allen, a rookie making only his seventh NHL start, continued a hot streak by stopping 18-of-19 San Jose shots during a furious second period for the Blues.

Stewart tallied in the first period and added an empty-netter as St. Louis won for the third time in four games.

Chris Porter and David Perron also scored for St. Louis.

The stumbling Sharks, meanwhile, absorbed their fourth straight loss despite goals from Dan Boyle and Brent Burns.

Antti Niemi made 17 saves for San Jose.
