WBC: United States 9, Canada 4

PHOENIX, March 10 (UPI) -- Adam Jones blasted a go-ahead double in the eighth inning Sunday and Team USA advanced at the World Baseball Classic with a 9-4 win over Canada.

With the United States trailing 3-2 entering the eighth, Joe Mauer led off with a single and David Wright followed with a walk off Jimmy Henderson (0-1).

Jones then belted a pitch into the left-center field gap, scoring pinch-runner Willie Bloomquist and Wright to put the United States ahead for good.

Jones scored on Shane Victorino's single and Team USA went on to record the victory in a do-or-die game, advancing to the WBC second round while Canada was eliminated.

Jones and Eric Hosmer each posted three RBI while Ben Zobrist went 3-for-5 with a run scored.

Heath Bell (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless seventh inning.

Michael Saunders hit a two-run homer and Adam Loewen added two RBI for Team Canada.
