Sara Errani wins Acapulco opener

ACAPULCO, Mexico, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Top-seeded defending champion Sara Errani of Italy continued to roll Tuesday with a win over Alexandra Cadantu in the first round of the Mexican Open.

Errani, who is the defending champion in Acapulco and was runner-up at Dubai last week, dispatched her Romanian opponent 6-3, 6-2 Tuesday in 1 hour, 25 minutes.

Second-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain had little trouble with France's Mathilde Johansson 6-1, 6-0, and third-seeded Alize Cornet of France out-dueled Catalina Castano of Colombia 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.

Francesca Schavione of Italy needed three sets to eliminate Grace Min of the United States 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, and qualifier Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez beat Alexandra Panova of Russia 6-3, 6-1.
