NBA: Detroit 96, Washington 95

WASHINGTON, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Jose Calderon's layup gave Detroit a nine-point lead with 1:06 to play Wednesday and the Pistons held off a dramatic charge to down Washington 96-95.

Detroit snapped a three-game skid and ended the Wizards' winning streak at three. Washington had won seven of its last nine after capturing just 11 of its first 46 this season.

Calderon's basket put the Pistons in front 96-87 and the Wizards then ran off the game's final eight points -- all from Trevor Ariza.

Ariza hit a pair of 3-pointers, then brought Washington within one by hitting two free throws with 12.3 seconds to play.

The Pistons held on, however, to win on the road for only the eighth time this season.

Brandon Knight led the way for Detroit with 32 points and Greg Monroe had 26 along with 11 rebounds. The Pistons hit 54 percent of their field goal attempts.

Ariza had 22 points off the bench to pace the Wizards while Bradley Beal had 16.
