GEORGETOWN, Mass., Feb. 27 (UPI) -- A bus carrying the University of Maine's women's basketball team crashed in Georgetown, Mass., Tuesday, seriously injuring the driver, officials said.
A number of passengers suffered minor injuries, The Boston Globe reported.
The bus was traveling south on Interstate 95 in northeastern Massachusetts when it crossed the median, swerved across four lanes and crashed into the woods, officials said, saying the unidentified driver was freed from the bus by emergency workers and transported by helicopter to Boston Medical Center.
The passengers, some of whom jumped into the snow through the side windows of the bus, were less seriously injured and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, the newspaper said.
Massachusetts State Police spokesman David Procopio said a preliminary investigation indicated the driver suffered a medical incident.
