Canucks' Kesler out with broken foot

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Vancouver Canucks center Ryan Kesler will be out indefinitely with a broken foot, Coach Alain Vigneault said Wednesday.

Vigneault said initial X-rays didn't reveal a break after he hurt the foot last week in a contest against Dallas, so he continued to play in games against Nashville, Detroit and Phoenix.

But, he added, a Wednesday computed tomography scan revealed a fractured right foot and Kesler is now expected to miss 4-6 weeks, the Vancouver Sun reported.

"Yesterday, he came in and told the doctor that he still felt a little discomfort so, just to have piece of mind, they decided to do a CT scan and obviously we didn't get the results that we anticipated since he'd been playing and since he'd been doing everything else," the coach said.

Kesler, who had already missed 12 games while recovering from earlier shoulder and wrist surgeries, had compiled five points this season.
