WASHINGTON, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Braden Holtby notched his second shutout of the season Tuesday, making 33 saves in the Washington Capitals' 3-0 whitewash of Carolina.

Holtby's performance allowed the Caps to notch their fourth win in six contests.

John Carlson, Nicklas Backstrom and John Erskine each scored for Washington, which notched a win in the return of former Caps star Alexander Semin.

The forward, now a member of the Hurricanes, logged four shots in more than 21 minutes of ice time.

Cam Ward compiled 37 saves for Carolina.
