RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Mathieu Garon turned aside 32 shots and Steven Stamkos notched a goal and an assist Saturday in the Tampa Bay Lightning's 5-2 win over Carolina.

Garon kept the game close over the first two periods, stopping all 23 shots he saw, and the Lightning broke the contest open with four goals in the final frame.

Second-round draft choice Richard Panik of Slovakia recorded his first career NHL goal, while Tom Pyatt, Benoit Pouliot and Marc-Andre Bergeron also scored for the Bolts.

The victory was Tampa Bay's third in four games.

Dan Ellis made 34 saves while Drayson Bowman and Chad LaRose tallied for Hurricanes, who dropped a third straight.
