NEW YORK, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da'Quan Bowers was arrested at a New York airport after a loaded firearm was found in his carry-on luggage, officials said.

Bowers was arrested Monday night at LaGuardia Airport as he prepared to board a US Airways flight to Raleigh, N.C., WNBC-TV, New York reported Tuesday.

He was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

"We are aware of the situation and are gathering information," Buccaneers General Manager Mark Dominik said Monday in a statement. "We will withhold comment until we know all the facts."

Bowers -- an all-American at Clemson who was selected by Tampa Bay in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft -- was arraigned Monday night.
