NAPLES, Fla., Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Bernhard Langer shot a bogey-free 62 Friday to take a 3-stroke lead in the first round of the ACE Group Classic on the Champions Tour.
Langer was 10-under-par for the day and wowed the crowd by lobbing in a hole-out eagle from 141 yards out on the 10th hole.
Langer used a 9-iron for the highlight shot of his overall solid round.
"I just heard a lot of noise when it hit the flag and cup," said Langer. "Sometimes they bounce out and go all over the place, but this one stayed in, so that was nice."
Bob Tway was the early clubhouse leader but wound up in second place at 65. Jay Don Blake, Tom Pernice and John Huston shared third place at 66.
Defending champion Kenny Perry was one of 10 players who shot 4-under 68. Rocco Mediate, who won the Allianz Championship last week, finished at even par.
