ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Matt Duchene scored the tying goal late in regulation and then added the game-winner in a shootout Thursday, lifting the Colorado Avalanche over Minnesota 4-3.
Duchene's tally with 7:18 remaining in the third period blunted a Wild comeback and enabled the Avalanche to force an extra frame.
Jean-Sebastien Giguere made a pair of saves while Milan Hejduk and Duchene bested Niklas Backstrom in the tiebreaker, allowing Colorado to break a three-game skid.
Hejduk tallied in regulation -- his 800th career point -- and Aaron Palushaj scored for the Avs.
Giguere made 26 saves.
Zach Parise, Michael Rupp and Mikko Koivu each scored and Backstrom made 29 stops for Minnesota.
