RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Joe Corvo scored and added an assist during a three-goal outburst in the second period that carried the Carolina Hurricanes to a 3-1 win over Toronto Thursday.

Corvo tallied 6 minutes into the frame to put Carolina ahead 1-0. After the Maple Leafs tied it less than 2 minutes later, he assisted on Jussi Jokinen's go-ahead goal.

Jordan Staal added a goal with 5 minutes left in the second and the streaking Hurricanes went on to record their sixth win in eight February games.

Dan Ellis turned aside 22-of-23 shots for Carolina.

Nazem Kadri scored and Ben Scrivens made 30 stops for the Leafs, whose four-game winning streak came to an end.
