Wozniacki picks up first-round win in Doha

DOHA, Qatar, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Caroline Wozniacki, just returned to the WTA Top 10, notched an impressive first-round win Monday at the Qatar Total Open.

Wozniacki, seeded 10th in the tournament, blitzed Mervana Jugic-Salkic 6-1, 6-2 in 60 minutes. She won 65 percent of the points in the match, including nearly 70 percent when serving.

Jugic-Salkic did manage one break in the match -- the lone game she won in the first set -- but Wozniacki cashed 5-of-6 break opportunities for the win.

Earlier Monday it was announced Wozniacki passed Marion Bartoli for the 10th spot in the WTA rankings.

No. 13-seeded Ana Ivanovic posted a similar 6-1, 6-2 win over Tamira Paszek in her first-round match. She also lost her serve once and had five breaks. Ivanovic won 61 percent of the points serving and 61 percent receiving serve.

Darla Gavrilova, inserted in the draw in place of the injured No. 14-seeded Dominika Cibulkova, defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 with two breaks in each set.

Other winners Monday were Anastasia Rodionova, Simona Halep, Mona Barthel, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Caroline Garcia.
