BOCA RATON, Fla., Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Bernhard Langer and Tom Pernice Jr. each shot a 6-under-par 66s Friday to tie for the lead after one round of the Allianz Championship.

Langer birdied four of the final six holes on The Old Course at Broken Sound Club in a bid to win this event for the second time in four years. The two-time Masters champion has won 16 times on the Champions Tour, including twice in 2012 when he finished as the runner-up to Tom Lehman in the race for the Charles Schwab Cup.

Among those tied for third were two players making their Champions Tour debut -- Bart Bryant and Rocco Mediate. Bryant became eligible for the tour when he turned 50 Nov. 18. Mediate celebrated his milestone birthday Dec. 17.

Defending champion Corey Pavin, Fred Funk, Scott Simpson and Roger Chapman also shot 67 to tie Bryant and Mediate.

Lehman, who won this tournament two years ago, was among the group at 4-under 68.
