BALTIMORE, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- A world-class ice dancer has pleaded guilty in a Maryland court to charges involving allegations he sexually abused a teenage girl in New York, officials say.

Genrikh Sretenski, 50, a Russian-born former Olympic competitor living in Clarksville, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of third degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, The Baltimore Sun reported Tuesday.

Sretenski was alleged to have sexually abused a 16-year-old girl in July 2011 in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Essex County, N.Y., prosecutors said that under a plea agreement reached in January in courts in Essex County and Lake Placid Village, N.Y., Sretenski paid a fine, was given a one-year conditional release and ordered to stay away from the teenager.

Maryland court records indicate Sretenski is being sued for $5 million in a civil lawsuit alleging he fondled a skater he coached in Laurel, Md.
