SUNRISE, Fla., Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Peter Mueller scored the tying goal and Alex Kovalev delivered the game-winner in the third period Thursday, lifting Florida to a 6-3 win over Winnipeg.

The Panthers won their opening game of the season and then lost five in a row before putting together a big third period against the Jets.

Florida scored five times in the final stanza, including the last four in a row. Winnipeg twice took a one-goal lead in the third, but the Panthers took advantage of the power play to come from behind.

The goals from both Mueller and Kovalev came with the man advantage and were scored 1:17 apart in the middle portion of the period.

After those goals had given Florida a 4-3 lead, the Panthers added late tallies from Jonathan Huberdeau and Tomas Kopecky.

Jose Theodore made 22 saves for the victory. Ondrej Pavelec stopped 28-of-33 shots. Winnipeg has dropped two in a row after winning three straight.
