NHL: San Jose 4, Vancouver 1

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Joe Pavelski pumped in two goals Sunday and the San Jose Sharks improved on their best-ever start to a season with a 4-1 win over Vancouver.

Patrick Marleau scored his fifth goal of the lockout-shortened campaign and added an assist for the Sharks, who moved to 5-0-0.

Joe Thornton had a goal and an assist while Antti Niemi made 23 saves for San Jose.

Alexandre Burrows scored and Cory Schneider was touched for four goals on 27 shots for the Canucks, whose two-game winning streak was snapped.
