SUNRISE, Fla., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Brian Campbell logged two goals Saturday and defending Southeast Division champion Florida began its season by rolling over Carolina 5-1.

First-round draft pick Jonathan Huberdeau, making his NHL debut, and Alex Kovalev each contributed a goal and an assist for Florida.

Jose Theodore turned aside 41-of-42 shots for the Panthers, who fell to New Jersey in the first round of the playoffs last season.

Carolina's Cam Ward was pulled from net after yielding four goals on 12 shots in the first period, and backup Dan Ellis let in one of 13 shots the rest of the way.

Patrick Dwyer scored the Hurricanes' only goal.
