CHICAGO, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- New Chicago Bears Coach Marc Trestman said defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli turned town a one-year contract extension through 2014.

Trestman, who took over as head coach after the firing of Lovie Smith at the close of the Bears' season, said he spoke with Marinelli about staying on as defensive coordinator but he declined, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.

"I had a chance to talk to Rod and we had a good discussion," Trestman said. "He's made up his mind to move on. And we'll begin the process now of identifying those people that could be in [that] position.''

The team announced the departure of offensive coordinator Mike Tice, coaches Jeremy Bates, Bob Babich, Darryl Drake, Tim Spencer, Tim Holt and Mike DeBord.
