Britt was at the Jersey City party where police were called after a fight broke out about 3:30 a.m. Callers said a man had been stabbed but when officer arrived they did not find anyone injured. A short time later staff at Jersey City Medical Center said a man had been brought in suffering from a stab wound to the back. The victim was identified as Britt's 23-year-old brother. Britt, who had brought the man to the emergency room, refused to cooperate with officers at the hospital and left to pick up his girlfriend, who was still at the party, police said.
"This is an ongoing investigation, and when the detectives speak to him then we'll know more," Jersey City Police Capt. Edgar Martinez said Sunday. "Right now, we have a lot of unanswered questions, so we are looking for him to come in and answer some questions for us. He has been uncooperative to this point."
Britt, a former first round draft choice out of Rutgers, has a long history of legal troubles. The (Nashville) Tennessean said Britt has had nine previous run-ins with the law, including a 2009 arrest for driving while intoxicated that resulted in a one-game suspension.
A Titans spokesman told the newspaper the team was aware of the most incident but had no comment.
Britt is entering the final year of his contract. He finished 2012 with a career-high 45 receptions with four touchdowns.
