Cleveland center has knee surgery

CLEVELAND, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers announced Thursday center Anderson Varejao had undergone knee surgery and could be out for as long as two months.

A small muscle tear was repaired in his right knee. He suffered the injury Dec. 18 in a game against Toronto and has not been on the court since.

Varejao has played in 25 games this season with an average of 14.1 points per contest. He leads the NBA with an average of 14.4 rebounds a game.

Cleveland has the second worst record in the league at 9-28.
