Dustin Johnson makes move up golf rankings

VIRGINIA WATER, England, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Dustin Johnson claimed the PGA Tour's first title of 2013 and made a healthy jump in the men's world golf rankings as a result.

Johnson won the weather-delayed Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. High winds led organizers to postpone the start of the event three days and reduce it to 54 holes. Johnson ended up 16-under-par 203, winning the event by four strokes.

That moves him from 23rd to 12th in the world rankings.

Each of the Tournament of Champions' top finishers improved his world ranking. Runner-up Steve Stricker is up five places to No. 18 while Brandt Snedeker, who was third, goes from No. 10 to eighth and Keegan Bradley, who tied for fourth, is up two spots to 11th.

The lone exception was Bubba Watson, who tied with Bradley but drops a place this week to ninth as Snedeker moves ahead of him.

Rory McIlroy leads the rankings for a 29th week. He has a rankings points average of 13.024, well ahead of second-ranked Luke Donald (8.452) and No. 3 Tiger Woods (8.409).

Justin Rose remains fourth at 6.325 with Adam Scott in fifth at 6.103. Louis Oosthuizen comes in No. 6 with an average of 6.066 and Lee Westwood's average of 5.920 is seventh best.

Snedeker has an average of 5.481 while Watson's is 5.340. Jason Dufner, who was pushed from ninth to No. 10, has an average of 5.139. But the players in the 10-13 ranking are tightly grouped -- Stricker's average is 5.097.
