ARLINGTON, Texas, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Free agent first baseman/designated hitter Lance Berkman has signed a one-year contract with the Texas Rangers, the team said Monday.

Berkman's deal includes a club option for 2014 and is reportedly contingent on the 14-year veteran passing a medical exam.
