NEW YORK, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo has been suspended for one game after a run-in with a game official, the NBA announced Monday.

The league said Rondo would miss Monday's game against the New York Knicks after a Sunday incident in which he made contact with an official -- earning him his second suspension of the season.

The contact came during the third quarter of Boston's 89-81 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

The NBA's assists leader at 11.3 helpers per contest had earlier been sanctioned for two games in connection with a Nov. 28 on-court altercation with the Brooklyn Nets.

Rondo is averaging 13.2 points per game.
