Kohlschreiber among Doha ATP winners

DOHA, Qatar, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber capped Monday's play with a straight-set win at the at the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open tennis tournament.

Kohlschreiber rolled through the second set for a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 victory over Ivan Dodig in a first-round match. Kohlschreiber dropped a mere 14 points -- five on serve -- in the second set.

No. 6-seeded Viktor Troicki needed a third set to get past Bjorn Phau 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Troicki lost his serve just once on the day and fought off a pair of break points in taking the third set.

Simone Bolelli claimed a third-set tiebreaker in topping Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-2). There were only three breaks in the match, including one by each player in the third set before Bolelli took control in the final tiebreaker.

Other first-round results Monday saw Nikolay Davydenko defeat Victor Hanescu 6-2, 6-3; Grega Zemlja stop Fabio Fognini 6-2, 3-6, 6-4; and Paolo Lorenzi get past Albert Ramos 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
