DETROIT, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Olindo Mare kicked four field goals Sunday and the Chicago Bears posted a 26-24 victory over Detroit, but still fell out of NFC playoff contention.

Jay Cutler completed 18-of-31 passes for 257 yards and a touchdown without an interception and Matt Forte added 103 rushing yards with a score on 24 carries for Chicago (10-6).

Earl Bennett hauled down a scoring pass among his five grabs for 109 yards for the Bears, whose playoff hopes were dashed when Minnesota defeated Green Bay later Sunday to claim the final NFC wild card berth.

Matthew Stafford went 24-of-42 through the air for 272 yards with three touchdowns and a pick-off for the Lions (4-12).

Calvin Johnson finished his record-breaking season with 72 receiving yards on five catches, ending the year 36 yards shy of the 2,000-yard mark.
