Svindal easily wins men's super-G

VAL GARDENA, Italy, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal breezed to victory in the World Cup men's super-G race at Val Gardena, Italy, Friday.

Svindal, who leads the overall men's cup points race, tamed the course in 1 minute, 36.95 seconds and finished 1.07 seconds ahead of Matteo Marsaglia of Italy.

Werner Heel of Italy placed third.

Travis Ganong was the top American finisher at 24th.

Svindal widened his lead in the overall standings to 132 points ahead of Ted Ligety of the United States. Ligety placed 25th in the race.
