BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Dec. 12 (UPI) -- A girl's high school basketball game in Indiana with a final score of 107-2 provoked outrage and comments of disgrace from fans and coaches.

After Bloomington South High School of Bloomington, Ind., with a record of 7-1, defeated Arlington High School, loser of 23 consecutive games, Tuesday evening, social media was aflame with negative comment, including, "Coaching staff (of Bloomington South) should be ashamed of itself" and "This is disgraceful," the Indianapolis Star reported Tuesday.

Bloomington South Coach Larry Winters said he understood public reaction, but claimed there was no intent to embarrass the opponents, noting he had only nine players available and rotated four new players into the game every four minutes.

"I didn't tell my girls to stop shooting because that would have been more embarrassing (to Arlington)," he said.

Indiana High School Athletic Association spokesman Chris Kaufman told WRTV-TV, Indianapolis, the score "is probably not what we wanted to see."

Arlington coach Ebony Jackson said she respected the opposition's program, but added, "If that's how they want to carry themselves, that's fine. I'm focused on mine and we'll just keep going."
