Vikes' Kluwe stumps for Ray Guy HOF bid

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Outspoken Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe took on another cause Sunday with an appeal to land former fellow punter Ray Guy in the Hall of Fame.

Kluwe, well known for his support for gay rights and various political causes, turned his attention to Guy -- a six-time all-pro for the Oakland Raiders in the 1970s -- during Sunday's Vikings victory over the Chicago Bears by wearing a message on his uniform.

Kluwe stuck a Post-It Note over the Hall of Fame patch on his uniform bearing the message "Vote Ray Guy" as electors cast their ballots in the run-up to the Feb. 3 announcements, Yahoo! Sports reported.

The Vikings punter said Guy, who is on the 2013 ballot as a seniors nominee, has been snubbed because he was a punter -- no one from that position is in the Hall of Fame.

"He is the most well-known punter to ever play the game of football," Kluwe told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "If you're going to have a Hall of Fame and you don't have the most famous guy at his position, what's the point?"
