KANSAS CITY, Mo., Dec. 5 (UPI) -- The Kansas City Chiefs Wednesday attended a memorial service for linebacker Jovan Belcher, who died last week in a murder-suicide involving his girlfriend.

Chiefs players, coaching staff and employees traveled by chartered buses from Arrowhead Stadium to the Landmark International Deliverance of Worship Center in Kansas City to pay their final respects to Belcher, USA Today reported.

The service lasted about an hour and afterwards a silver-colored casket containing Belcher's body was loaded onto a hearse and his somber family emerged from the church, the newspaper said.

"I hope it will bring peace to a lot of people, not just people on this team," quarterback Brady Quinn told reporters.

Police say Belcher killed his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins in their Kansas City home Saturday before going to Arrowhead Stadium, where he shot himself in the presence of the team's coach and general manager.

USA Today cited an unnamed team source as saying Chiefs members will also be present when Perkins' memorial service is held at a still-to-be determined time.
