MEXICO CITY, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Miguel Calero, a former soccer goalie for Colombian and Mexican teams, is brain dead after suffering a stroke, his doctors said.

His family had not yet requested his removal from life support, Colombia Reports said. His current team, Pachuca, said Monday he would remain on life support at a hospital in Mexico City until the family does so.

Calero, 41, played for Atletico Nacional and Deportivo Cali in Colombia. He moved to Pachuca in 2000, first as a goalie and later became a team trainer.

He suffered a stroke in late November.

"What happened to Miguel Calero hurts all Colombians," President Juan Miguel Santos said on Twitter.
