PITTSBURGH, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was not medically cleared to play against Baltimore, contrary to some reports, the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette said.

It had been reported Roethlisberger was cleared medically to do as much as he chose to in advance of Sunday's game against the Ravens and surprised teammates with a lack of practice for the contest, but the newspaper said Monday the Steelers were aware he would not play for a third consecutive week as he recovered from a shoulder sprain.

The Steelers, behind backup quarterback Charlie Batch, beat the Ravens in Baltimore 23-20.
