Belcher had a gun to his head in the parking lot when officers arrived and he pulled the trigger while walking away.

A Chiefs spokesman told NFL.com Belcher was talking to General Manager Scott Pioli and head Coach Romeo Crennel when police arrived. Neither said they felt threatened by Belcher, who reportedly thanked them for everything they had done for him.

"The entire Chiefs family is deeply saddened by today's events, and our collective hearts are heavy with sympathy, thoughts and prayers for the families and friends affected by this unthinkable tragedy," team Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Clark Hunt said in a written statement.

Belcher, 25, turned the gun on himself not long after he allegedly shot Kasandra Perkins, described as his girlfriend and mother of his 3-month-old child. The 22-year-old woman was fatally wounded at a nearby residence and died at a hospital.

Los Angeles Galaxy repeat as MLS champions

CARSON, Calif., Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane each converted penalty-kick goals Saturday and Los Angeles rallied for a 3-1 win over Houston to repeat as MLS champions.

Trailing 1-0 at the half in the MLS Cup, the Galaxy began their comeback in the 60th minute when Omar Gonzalez scored the equalizer on a header following a corner kick and an assist by Juninho.

Four minutes later, Houston's Ricardo Clark was cited for a hand ball in the penalty area and Donovan converted the resulting penalty kick to put the Galaxy ahead for good.

Keane made it 3-1 with another penalty shot in stoppage after Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall was called for a hard foul in the penalty area.

The Galaxy bested Houston in the MLS Cup for the second straight season in David Beckham's final game with the club. They joined D.C. United as the only franchises with four league championships.

Long-time hoops coach Majerus dies at 64

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Rick Majerus, who built successful men's basketball programs at several colleges, has died in Los Angeles at age 64, his girlfriend confirmed Saturday.

Angie Kvidera told USA Today Majerus -- who took Utah to the 1998 NCAA national championship game and most recently led the Saint Louis University program -- had died but no details were provided. The Los Angeles Times reported Majerus' friend, John Huntsman, said he succumbed to heart failure at a Los Angeles hospital.

Officials at Saint Louis University revealed in August that Majerus would miss the entire 2012-13 season under leave of absence while dealing with heart issues, and last month announced he had left the job as word had spread within college coaching circles that his condition had worsened.

The colorful and eccentric Majerus logged 25 years as a head coach with stops at his alma mater Marquette, Ball State, Utah and Saint Louis, compiling a 517-215 overall record. Only one season was a losing one, the Times said.

He coached teams into the NCAA tournament 12 times, including last year's edition of the Billikens, who won 95 games in four seasons under Majerus.
