PHOENIX, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Arizona rookie Ryan Lindley will start at quarterback Sunday, replacing an ineffective John Skelton, Cardinals Coach Ken Whisenhunt said.

Whisenhunt announced Wednesday the sixth-round pick out of San Diego State would begin the game behind center when Arizona takes on the St. Louis Rams.

Lindley came off the bench against Atlanta last weekend and completed 9-of-20 passes for 64 yards in the Cardinals' 23-19 loss.

The sixth straight setback dropped Arizona to 4-6.

Skelton was benched after going 98-of-179 (54.7 percent) through the air with only two touchdowns and five interceptions.

He had replaced the injured Kevin Kolb, who sustained multiple detached ribs and a sprained shoulder during a Week 6 game against Buffalo.

Kolb -- who led the Cardinals to a 4-1 record -- is at least one week away from making a reappearance, the team said.
