CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Michael Jordan, Charlotte Bobcats majority owner, took time from basketball operations to help hand out Thanksgiving meals to needy Charlotte families.

While the mood was upbeat, Jordan was clearly the star Tuesday morning as over 1,000 people visited Time Warner Cable Arena to receive Thanksgiving turkeys and cans and boxes of other traditional foods in an initiative organized by the team's "Cats Care" community outreach program, Second Harvest Food Bank, Crisis Assistance Ministry and other local partners, the Charlotte (N.C.0 Observer reported Wednesday.

Jordan spoke at length with his guests, had babies handed to him and posed for pictures, the newspaper reported.

Asked what Thanksgiving means to him, Jordan responded, "Family, food and football," emphasizing family and the gift of time with them.
