HONOLULU, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- The 42-game winning streak of defending NCAA women's basketball champion Baylor came to an end Friday in a 71-69 loss to Stanford.

Baylor put together an unbeaten season in 2011-12 behind player-of-the-year Brittney Griner.

The Lady Bears defeated Stanford in the national semifinals last season in Denver.

Griner attempted a jump shot from the baseline with 3 seconds remaining, but it bounced off the front of the rim and Stanford's Chiney Ogwumike grabbed the rebound to wrap up the upset.

Baylor's winning streak was the fifth longest in NCAA Division 1 women's basketball. Connecticut holds the record with 90 straight wins from 2008 to 2011.
