LANDOVER, Md., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Cam Newton
ran for one score and passed for another Sunday, sparking Carolina past Washington and fellow Heisman trophy winner Robert Griffin III
Newton tossed for 201 yards in the meeting of the last two Heisman winners and DeAngelo Williams added a rushing score as the Panthers (2-6) snapped a five-game losing streak.
Jonathan Stewart ran for 51 yards on 10 carries and Steve Smith made three catches for 41 yards and a TD in the win.
Griffin, meanwhile, was held to 23-of-39 through the air for 215 yards and ran for 53 more on 11 carries for the Redskins (3-6), who fell for a third straight game.
