NFL: Carolina 21, Washington 13

LANDOVER, Md., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Cam Newton ran for one score and passed for another Sunday, sparking Carolina past Washington and fellow Heisman trophy winner Robert Griffin III 21-13.

Newton tossed for 201 yards in the meeting of the last two Heisman winners and DeAngelo Williams added a rushing score as the Panthers (2-6) snapped a five-game losing streak.

Jonathan Stewart ran for 51 yards on 10 carries and Steve Smith made three catches for 41 yards and a TD in the win.

Griffin, meanwhile, was held to 23-of-39 through the air for 215 yards and ran for 53 more on 11 carries for the Redskins (3-6), who fell for a third straight game.
