CHICAGO, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Greivis Vasquez and Jason Smith combined for 34 points Saturday and the short-handed New Orleans Hornets edged Chicago 89-82.

Vasquez put in 18 points and handed out six assists. Smith provided 16 points off the bench as the Hornets emerged with a win despite the absence of No. 1 draft pick Anthony Davis.

Davis was recovering after sustaining a concussion in Friday's win over Utah.

Robin Lopez contributed 16 points, seven rebounds and four blocks and Ryan Anderson helped out with 12 points and 13 rebounds as the Hornets snapped an eight-game losing streak against the Bulls.

Chicago got 19 points and eight rebounds from Luol Deng.
