SOCHI, Russia, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- The International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation has given approval to the bobsled and luge track built for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Ivo Ferriani, president of the federation, signed an official certificate Friday during a meeting with Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko approving the track to host international events, RIA Novosti reported.

"Now the bobsled and luge track is ready for international competition," Ferriani said. "I've seen great organization at the Russian Cup."

The 1.1-mile track was built this year and had its first test March at the Russian Championships.

Sochi Olympics organizers said major construction on facilities for the 2014 Games is more than 70 percent complete and should be finished next year.
