KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Troy Matteson closed with four consecutive birdies Thursday in building a one-stroke lead at the PGA Tour's CIMB Classic in Malaysia.

Matteson's late birdie run ended with him holing a shot from a green-side bunker for a birdie at 18 and an 8-under-par 63. Robert Garrigus, Brian Harman and Jeff Overton are tied for second at 7-under. Gaganjeet Bhullar and Tom Gillis each shot 6-under 65 while Tiger Woods is among a group of six players tied for seventh at 5-under, three strokes off Matteson's pace.

Woods played the second nine in 5-under but was even on the front after back-to-back bogeys at 8 and 9.

Matteson's bogey-free round started hot with birdies at Nos. 2 and 3 and he got to 3-under with a birdie at the sixth hole. He added a birdie at 11 and made a charge starting at the 15th.

The spurt included making putts of 8 feet at 16 and 6 feet at 17 before holing out the bunker shot on 18.

Overton carded five birdies and an eagle at the par-4 15th while Harmon had eight birdies and a bogey at the seventh hole Thursday. Garrigus had five birdies on the opening nine but had an eagle at No. 11 between bogeys at 10 and 13. He added a pair of birdies the rest of the way.
