VALENCIA, Spain, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- No. 1-seeded David Ferrer had little trouble Thursday finishing off a straight-set second-round win at the Valencia Open in Spain.

Ferrer won 70 percent of the points on serve in a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Albert Ramos. Ramos pooled enough receiving point wins to notch a break in the second set but Ferrer generally was in control when he served.

He also had four breaks, with three coming in the second set.

Sixth-seeded Nicolas Almagro blasted Sam Querrey in the third set for a 6-4, 6-7 (4-7) 6-0 victory. Almagro took 74 percent of the points in the final set, limiting Querrey to just four points on serve.

Ferrer and Almagro will meet in Friday's quarterfinals.

In other second-round matches Thursday, Alexandr Dolgopolov stopped Gilles Muller 6-4, 6-4; Marcel Granollers dropped serve just once in a 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-2 win over Gilles Simon; and Jurgen Melzer beat Xavier Malisse 7-5, 6-2.

In addition to the Ferrer-Almagro match, which pits two Spaniards against each other, Croatian countrymen Ivan Dodig and seventh-seeded Marin Cilic are paired against each other Friday while Malisse and David Goffin, both from Belgium, draw each other in the quarterfinals. The fourth match Friday has Granollers, from Spain, playing Dolgopolov, a Ukrainian.
