EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- A 42-year-old man was in critical condition Sunday after a 30-foot fall at MetLife Stadium during the New York Giants' victory over Washington, police said.

New Jersey State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman told the New York Post the unidentified man toppled from an escalator onto a metal stage near the stadium's Verizon gate.

Grossman said the man suffered severe head injuries and was airlifted to Hackensack University Medical Center in critical condition.

The accident happened 2 minutes after Eli Manning had connected with Victor Cruz on a 77-yard scoring pass with 1:13 left in the game, giving the Giants the lead, officials said.
