PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- New York Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey said his surgery to repair a lower abdominal muscle tear "went well" in Philadelphia.

Dickey, 37, posted to his Twitter account Thursday that his surgery earlier in the day was successful and he was able to return home, The Sports Network reported Friday.

"Thank you everyone for your thoughts, prayers etc." Dickey tweeted. "I'm back from Philly unscathed. That is except for a 2-inch incision in my lower ab. Surgery went well."

Dickey is expected to be fully recovered in time for spring training.
