SEA ISLAND, Ga., Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Rookie Bud Cauley and Marco Dawson each shot an 8-under 62 Thursday that left them sharing the lead after one round of the McGladrey Classic.
Cauley is looking for his first PGA Tour victory in what has had a solid opening season on the circuit. He has had four Top 10 finishes, including a 2012-best third place at the Wyndham Championship, and he stands 42nd on the money list.
The co-leaders were two shots in front of Greg Owen, Boo Weekley and Rod Pampling while the large group at 65 included Zach Johnson, David Toms and U.S. Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III.
Johnson was one of only three Americans on the 12-man team to win his singles match at last month's Ryder Cup while the European squad was rallying to a one-point victory.
Jim Furyk, another member of that team, shot a 66 Thursday and was tied for 15th place.
