MLB: San Fran. 2, Cincinnati 1 (10 inn.)

CINCINNATI, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Scott Rolen's 10th-inning error allowed the go-ahead run to score Tuesday and San Francisco avoided playoff elimination with a 2-1 win over Cincinnati.

With the score tied in 1-1 in the 10th inning of the National League Division Series game, Buster Posey and Hunter Pence led off with singles against Jonathan Broxton (0-1).

Brandon Belt and Xavier Nady each struck out, but with Joaquin Arias at the plate, Cincinnati catcher Ryan Hanigan allowed the runners to move up on a passed ball.

Arias then shot a grounder to third baseman Rolen, who was handcuffed by a tough hop. He picked it up but his throw to first was late, allowing Posey to score the decisive run.

Sergio Romo (1-0) recorded the final six out to earn the win for the Giants, who still trail the Reds 2-games-to-1 in the best-of-five NLDS.

Cincinnati starter Homer Bailey held San Francisco to just one hit and a run over seven complete innings.
