BALTIMORE, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Wei-Yin Chen allowed only one earned run over 6 1/3 innings Monday and Baltimore evened its playoff series with a 3-2 decision over the New York Yankees.
Chen (1-0) worked around eight hits and a walk to hold the Yankees to two runs (one earned) while striking out three as the Orioles knotted their best-of-five American League Division Series at one victory apiece.
Darren O'Day and Brian Matusz combined for 1 2/3 scoreless relief frames and Jim Johnson -- who allowed the go-ahead run in the eighth inning of Sunday's Game 1 loss -- tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the save.
New York's Andy Pettitte (0-1) absorbed the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits over seven innings.
