Paul Wood of the Warrington Wolves wrote on his Twitter account Sunday his right testicle was a victim of the collision early in the second half of his team's match against the Leeds Rhinos, CNN reported.
"Ruptured my right testicle, got a knee one minute into the second half, had to have it removed," wrote Wood, a 30-year-old father of two.
The broadcaster said Wood continued through until the end of game despite the injury, then had the procedure performed while seeking treatment after the contest, which the Wolves lost 26-18.
The player showed a sense of humor about the injury.
"Just coming out the hospital to go home... Seriously feel like I've left something?" he wrote. "(Wolves coach) Tony Smith did say in his pre-match team talk last night 'your balls are on the line here guys!' I didn't think he meant literally."
